After being displaced by conflict in Afghanistan and again by conflict in Syria, Jawan and his wife and children came to Canada as refugees. While providing for his family, persevering through settlement challenges, and upgrading his education, he earned a Social Work diploma from Red Deer College. He is now using his expertise and experience working with newcomers and vulnerable members of the Red Deer community as a social worker
Fzeini came to Canada to study and he earned a master’s degree in education administration. Immediately after graduating, he moved to Red Deer for economic opportunities and because he had close friends who lived in the city. Although he finds his current job as a youth counsellor fulfilling, Fzeini hopes to work for himself one day while also helping other Ghanaians access education and reach their dreams.
